Background:Drugs that have been used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) are becoming more and more common. Erectile dysfunction has become a major health concern in recent years. Methods:A total of 515 patients with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction who received PDE5i treatment were randomly divided into two groups: group 1 (n = 515) and group 2 (n = 515), the patients were randomly allocated into two groups: 1. In the first group, sildenafil (Viagra, Pfizer, USA) was administered for a maximum of 10 minutes before sexual activity. In the second group, sildenafil was administered for a maximum of 10 minutes before sexual activity. Patients who did not receive sildenafil were excluded from the study.
Results:During the 1-week treatment period, the patients in group 1 and group 2 received a PDE5i treatment for up to 10 minutes before sexual activity, respectively. The mean age of the patients was 39.5 ± 7.5 years. The mean International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) scores were 24 ± 13.8 and 18 ± 11.8, respectively. The mean IIEF-5 scores and International Index of Erectile Function-5 scores were significantly improved in the sildenafil group. The mean IIEF-5 score and IIEF-5 scores in the PDE5i group was significantly higher than in the control group. The mean IIEF-5 scores and the IIEF-5 scores in the sildenafil and PDE5i groups were significantly better than in the placebo groups. The mean IIEF-5 scores in the sildenafil and PDE5i groups were significantly improved compared with the placebo groups. Conclusions:The results of this study demonstrate that sildenafil and sildenafil-PDE5i combination treatment could be an effective add-on to ED drugs for the treatment of ED.
